    National Go Topless Day 2009 : Gotopless.org is organizing its second annual National Go-Topless day on Sunday Aug 23rd 2009 to claim the constitutional right of women to be topless or topfree in public where men already have that right. "As long as men are allowed to be topless in public, women should have the same constitutional right. Or else, men should have the wear something to hide their chests". Rael Spiritual leader of the Raelian Movement and founder of gotopless.org. In our society, men and women are supposed to have equal rights. But women are commonly arrested, fined and humiliated for daring to go topless in public, a freedom men have had for decades. To protest this unconstitutional gender discrimination, GoTopless.org is holding National Go-Topless Day events in cities nationwide. Thousands of women will be baring their chests that day in the name of equal rights, and we hope you'll be there too! The marches will be followed by an equal rights speech, and artists performances. In Venice Beach, CA we will have a stage on Windward Ci. and in New York City we will have a stage in Central Park near Columbus Ci. In cities, including NYC, Columbus, Portland, Austin where it is already legal for women to go bare-chested, GoTopless will be present to encourage them to exercise that right! This national goTopless event takes place in August because it is on August 26, 1920 that women earned the right to vote. In 1970, Congress has declared August 26 Women's Equality Day "as a reminder of women's continuing effort for equality". So far, Aug 23 GoTopless events will take place in Los Angeles (Venice Beach), Chicago, New York City (Central Park), Miami (South Beach), Columbus Ohio, Portland Oregon, Austin Texas, Maui Hawaii.     Six Man Volleyball Tournament 2009 : I attended what I think is the best summer party this weekend. The Charlie Saikley 6-man (now referred to as 6-person) Beach Volleyball tournament in Manhattan Beach California. Where the volleyball players have to dress-up in costume, then play the match.     Venice Vintage Motorcycle Rally - July 12th 2009 : On Sunday July 12…the glorious roar of vintage iron graced the street of Abbot Kinney once again. Whether you drool over Ducati’s or groan for Guzzi’s, your moto appetite should have been satisfied. Led by Brady Walker & Shannon Sweeney, the notorious Venice Vintage Motorcycle Club (VVMC) had another successful rally! A vintage bike procession traveled through the Santa Monica Mountains from 9am to 11am. After there was judging & awards, a photography exhibit, superior barbeque by Uncle Creepo, & a beer garden catered by Big Foot Lodge for all of the thirsty revelers. T-shirts & posters designed by VVMC graphic designer Jeff Verges commemorating the event are still for sale. Sponsors for this event was Nikki’s, Trim Hair Salon, Garage Company & ASTARS. A handmade wallet created by One Too Many was also raffled off. A portion of the proceeds benefited the Boys & Girls Club of Venice. MUSCLE BEACH JULY 4TH, 2009 The 75th Anniversary of Muscle Beach was celebrated at the July 4th, 2009 Mr. & Ms. Muscle Beach Bodybuilding, Figure and Bikini competition. The Title Sponsor MuscleTech was honored to have Acting Mayor Jan Perry along with the 11th District Councilman Bill Rosendahl, and Sophia Pina Cortez from the City of Los Angeles Recreation and Parks Department present a plaque to the Hall of Fame Inductees who attended the event. The Muscle Beach Venice Bodybuilding Hall of Fame inducted two outstanding individuals. Dr. Bernie Ernst, known for his television show “Body Buddies” and Relna Brewer McRae one of the four original founding members of Santa Monica Muscle Beach were inducted. The audience enjoyed the “Then and Now” entertainment provided by the father and son team of Misha and Ivan depicting the excellent gymnastic routines performed at Santa Monica Muscle Beach in the 1940’s. Jake Sawyer presented a superb bodybuilding posing routine that depicts the “now” of the world renown bodybuilding acclaim of Muscle Beach Venice. A number of Hall of Fame Inductees were on hand for the celebration including Bill Grant, Paula Boelsems, Bill Howard, Tony Pearson, John Balik, Gene Mosee and Elaine Hargitay for Mickey Hargitay. A record breaking number of athletes competed at Muscle Beach on July 4, 2009.     2009 Muscle Beach International Classic : The 2009 Muscle Beach International Classic in Venice Beach on Memorial Day, May 25th for bodybuilding, figure, and bikini competition. in association with Joe Wheatley Productions and Venice Beach Recreation Center. Monday, May 25: The Muscle Beach International Classic bodybuilding, figure, and bikini contests, which are open to all amateur athletes. The entry fee was $80. In conjunction with this will be the “Battle of the Branches” Armed Forces Bodybuilding Championships, which was open to all active, reserve, National Guard, and retired armed forces personnel. Prejudging for both competitions was held at 10:00 a.m., with the finals were at 1:00 p.m. For more back stage coverage check the pics at Venice Paparazzi.     Amateur Boxing - Rumble in Venice 2009 : The Muscle Beach's "Rumble in Venice" was held May 24th, 2009 at the Venice Recreation Center on Ocean Front Walk. The Amateur Boxing 2009 was presented by Pro Fight Supplements. The 2nd annual "Rumble in Venice" amateur Boxing was hosted by Ramon Espada of Espada Boxing Club in association with Joe Wheatley Productions and Venice Beach Recreation Center. There were roughly twenty-five 3-round bouts of amateur boxing including fighters from Espada, USC and UCLA Boxing clubs along with members of the Navy, Marines and Air Force in honor of Memorial Day Weekend.     L.A. Urban Iditarod 2009 : The L.A. Urban Iditarod took place Saturday March 7th, 2009 in Venice Beach California. Now this isn't the Alaska Tundra so you can't have a sled dog race, or can you. How about instead of a sled you have a shopping cart, instead of dogs you have people pull the shoppng cart, and as for the "musher". Well, it's their job to get the drunken grunts to move that shopping cart. Oh wait, did I mention this is also a bar crawl? No, did I also mention that the teams dressed up in different themes and outfits?     Drops Fill Buckets Comedy Charity : Drops Fill Buckets had a comedy charity at Nikki's in Venice Tuesday night 02/24/2009. To see the entire event along with most of the on lookers check out Venice Paparazzi Drops Fill Buckets is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to raising money for pressing needs around the globe. Befitting an organization set up for busy people, by busy people, we’ve kept our goals simple and our outcomes clear. First, we put ownership of this organization – and therefore its goals and priorities – in the hands of its members. Second, we strive to minimize the vast administrative burden that often prevents nonprofits from optimizing their allocation of resources. And finally, we aim to give only to projects with tangible, quantifiable, and visible outcomes.     Hollywood Blvd - 81st Oscar Set-up 2009 : The Academy Awards or "Oscars" is now always help at the Kodak Theatre on Hollywood Blvd. They start preparing for this one-time event a week ahead of times, and it amazes me how many people and big a deal this event is. The 81st Academy Awards ceremony was held by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to honor its selection of the best films of 2008 on February 22, 2009, at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles, California. The ceremony was televised in the United States on ABC and on Sky Movies in high definition in the United Kingdom. Australian performer Hugh Jackman hosted the ceremony for the first time.[3] Oscar-nominated Laurence Mark served as the event's producer, while Oscar-winning writer and director Bill Condon served as executive producer. Slumdog Millionaire won eight awards, the most of the evening, including Best Picture and Best Director (Danny Boyle). The Curious Case of Benjamin Button led the nominations with a total of thirteen while Slumdog Millionaire received ten. The Dark Knight and Milk received eight nominations, and Doubt, The Reader, and Frost/Nixon each received five. WALL-E, the winner for Best Animated Feature, received six nominations, tying it with Beauty and The Beast for the most nominated animated film in Oscar history. The Academy hoped to rework the ceremony through an entirely new production team sworn to secrecy; however, the telecast proved to receive mainly mixed reviews from critics. Controversies stemmed from the ceremony prior to its broadcast, most notably the Academy's alleged snubbing of films such as The Dark Knight, Revolutionary Road, Doubt, The Wrestler, and WALL·E, threats of a possible Screen Actors Guild strike, and fear of continuation of low viewership from more recent Oscar telecasts.
