    The Speakeasies Townhouse Photo Shoot : The Speakeasies are lovely group of dancers taking a step back in time to an era of Burlesque / Cabaret shows. A form of entertainment featuring song and dance with acts including striptease, expensive costumes, bawdy humor while patrons watch on and drink. A new generation nostalgic for the spectacle and perceived glamour of the old times determined to bring burlesque back. This group established themselves at the Townhouse Bar in Venice Beach California - 52 Windward Ave. (West of Pacific), Venice, CA 90291. Where they put on shows quite regularly.     24th Annual Abbot Kinney Festival 2008 : For the 24th Annual Abbot Kinney Festival they shut down Abbot Kinney Blvd from Venice Blvd to Main St where crowds of people strolled down the boulevard looking over jewelry, cloths, crafts, art & photography. Hungry? There was spots to eat from end to end. There also was live music all along the boulevard from Miss Willie Brown, Jesca Hoop to Pau Chesne. Add that with party attendees dressed up in their 80's fashion, visuals of Pac Man, Space Invaders, and the movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High playing in the background.     2008 Muscle Beach Labor Day Bodybuilding Championship : The Muscle Beach Championship ended the 2008 season of events at Muscle Beach on September 1, 2008. Overall Weider Women’s Bodybuilding was won by Ildiko Gaspar from Australia The Weider Cup Men’s Open Bodybuilding was won by Dean Ash from London. Overall Figure Novice was won by Ashley Butts and Overall Figure Open was won by Francesca Apololito. The Star Trac Best Posing award went to a first time Teen Competitor Butch Dennis Jr. Once again thanks to Bodybuilding.com the Presenting Sponsor and HeadBlade the Host Sponsor and the many other vendors who made the exhibit area a hub of activity.     Venice Storm 2008 : An unusual tropical storm pass by Venice Beach late night on August 14th 2008. Hundreds of lightning strikes danced around the sky in southern California that night, creating quite a magnificent show. They say lightning sensors even detected 445 ground strikes over a three hour period! This is very unusual for Southern California. Reminded me when I use to live in Florida.     SIGGRAPH 2008 : The SIGGRAPH (Special Interest Group/Graphics) convention this year was here in Los Angeles Aug. 12, 2008. Autodesk just has become the powerhouse in the industry, and announced new versions of most software I haven’t even begun to learn. Including the fact that I wasn’t quite aware that they had purchased Mudbox, a competitor of Z Brush. Their booth was jammed pack the entire day. Then all over the exhibit hall were signs of the upcoming move to stereoscopic. Which is a term you have to use to create the rehashed 3D movie crap they are putting in movies. All I thought is this more ’shit’ I have to learn.

    Hot Import Nights 2008 - HIN LA : Hot Import Nights (HIN) is an auto show comprised of mainly tuner import cars. The show originated in California, but now tours various cities in the United States. Sponsors include Boost Mobile, The Army National Guard, Bridgestone Tires and NOS Energy Drinks. Hot Import Nights hosts single-night events in a number of different cities across the US, with an average of roughly two such events per month. The locales include standard metropolitan cities such as Los Angeles, CA, Boston, MA, San Mateo, CA, Seattle, WA, New York, NY, Miami, FL and Chicago, IL. The show is open to the public where individuals show off or exhibit their own vehicles or motorcycles. Many noteworthy hip-hop and rap musicians also perform at this show. There have also been performances by noteworthy DJ's, and electronic dance music artists. Unlike other auto shows, Hot Import Nights synthesizes a night club-like atmosphere with the nation’s toughest and most rigorous “tuner” (automotive modification) competitions. It also highlights the growing subculture of import cars and racing, a billion-dollar industry dominated by Asian Americans. In addition to a large number of vehicles, Hot Import Nights events typically feature a number of promotional models. These models promote the products of individual companies/magazines/websites with booths at the event, some participate in fashion shows, and others dance on stage with a DJ playing the music selections. These car shows are typically set up with a night club atmosphere (dark with night club lighting & music), but are still geared towards people of all ages. Although the show is open to all ages, somewhat revealing or risque outfits on the models are not uncommon. Typically they wear bikinis, miniskirts, cut t-shirts, spaghetti string tank tops, etc... that are usually supplied by the company/magazine/website that they are representing.
